Back to School: Clear Your Desk, Clear Your Mind

By HoopBot

There are several things you should clear up before returning to school, the same things just shouldn't bother you. 'A messy desk is a messy mind,' my teacher always used to say. So here's to a fresh start to a new school, university of working career.

What State is Your Room in?

  • Extremely tidy
  • Reasonably neat
  • Average
  • Quite messy
  • Complete pigsty

You've had a fun summer, but it's nearing the end. So what's the best order for preparing for school? Let's get you sorted:

  • Bin Bags Throw away crap you don't need: old clothes, broken stationery and general rubbish. Physically annihilate everything that you don't need anymore in your room, and be harsh. That includes throwing away your old books; sorry, should all be in your head now! That also includes backing up your PC and removing all the junk on there.
  • Spit Shine Once everything in your room is something you want to keep (as in, you've gone through every pencil and sharpener and separated good from bad, and sacked the bad), you can start cleaning. Hoover, manoeuvre and you won't be a loser. Wash your sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases too.
  • Shop Smart Buy new things! But be smart. By now your room should be looking incredible. So lift your spirits and buy new stationery, a few new and nice clothes and some fresh and challenging books. That'll probably make you feel better about throwing away those old clothes, too.
  • Relax Before you rush into 'Oh my God it's school' mode, just relax. That's what holidays are for, really.
  • Sharpen the Saw Talking with absolutely everyone at school might shock your brain a bit, like it does everyone else, and you may be a noob at talking again. So just be nice, be kind, and get into the zone - do what you do best, whether that's sports or website-building. And try to make some cash money money.
