Ten Fastest Players in the NBA

75

By HoopBot

Speed in the NBA is useless without mad handles. That's why this list will focus on players with speed and the ability to handle the ball at those high speeds. One should also note that rookies and college players might overuse their speed; it's all part of the maturing process. In order of fastest from the top:

  • Derrick Rose
  • Aaron Brooks
  • Devin Harris
  • Darren Collison
  • Monta Ellis
  • Chris Paul
  • T.J. Ford
  • Leandro Barbosa
  • Tony Parker
  • Steve Nash

Derrick Rose is notorious for being a very explosive player. He can use speed alone to drive by his defenders. Aaron Brooks similarly puts on a show for the Houston Rockets, and is an extremely slippery guy to defend. Devin Harris holds the record for dribbling baseline-to-baseline. But he lands at 3rd because his handles are less impressive, and he doesn't play a fast tempo game with passing either. Moreover, nobody worthy has yet challenged that Guinness world record, maybe he should be 4th. Darren Collison put on a show of quickness in New Orleans during Chris Paul's injury. Some of his replays are jaw-dropping. Monta Ellis is one of the shorter shooting-guards in the league, but makes up for it by a number of ways; one of those is speed. T.J. Ford has been speedy throughout his whole career, which is impressive in itself, because normally rookies will show off their quickness and gradually slow during their years in the NBA. Leandro Barbosa is an integral part of the Phoenix Suns, and a main reason why they play such an up-tempo game. He is the quickest small-forward in the NBA by far, screw LeBron James on this one. Tony Parker might have been the fastest player at one point in his career, but he now contributes a more well-rounded game, and still plays at a very high level. Steve Nash is on this list because, while may not be the fastest sprinter, his quick passing skills are sure to dazzle your wits. Plus, Nash is a warrior, you can't teach that. He thinks a step ahead of everyone else, which is worth noting too.

Who do You Think is the Quickest NBA Player?

  • Derrick Rose
  • Aaron Brooks
  • Devin Harris
  • Darren Collison
  • Monta Ellis
  • Chris Paul
  • T.J. Ford
  • Leandro Barbosa
  • Tony Parker
  • Steve Nash
  • Other

Can Barbosa play Small Forward?

I think LeBron James would be the Small forward on your all-fast team.

Wow. I'm feeling my age a lot. I've never been much of a sports fan, but years ago I would've at least recognized some of the famous names....

However, I'm in Indiana, which is known for basketball, and I happened upon your profile & articles, which reminded me of a program on WFYI yesterday about John Wooden, one of Indiana's most famous basketball players/coaches. I found it pretty interesting, even for a non-sports-fan like me.

Do you ever write about those former greats?

Now I feel like a newbie! Haha, perhaps I should thanks, like the hall of famers. I was thinking of doing infographics of great/interesting players like Dennis Rodman and stuff, maybe videos too (that would be on my website).

Oh, and by the way, this is what NBA Live 10 ranked as the fastest players in the game:

Dwyane Wade: 99

Chris Paul: 99

Leandro Barbosa: 99

Derrick Rose: 95

Rajon Rondo: 95

LeBron James: 95

(a few others at 95, and A.I. at 93, even though he's oldish)

Here's a subject I know nothing about but I can certainly understand the need for ball handling skills AND speed.

@estee Yes, I think so actually. When I wrote this I had just watched a Sac-town game, and was disappointed at T.E.'s speed!

John Wall is a speedster that can finish but I am sure this article was before the season started. I think he right up there near the top. I did not see Ty Lawson of the Denver Nuggets on the list and he definitely can get end to end in a hurry. I do like you have included on the list very good players who are fast and can finish.

Good list and fun read. Surprised not see Rondo on there. He's faster than most players, with the ball.

King David 2 months ago

Rondo is the fastest in Nba, Nfl, MLB and why not Bolt too…!

Mike 2 months ago

LeBron should be in the top 10 of all players and is without question the fastest small forward
